Cancer Care at Southwest General

The University Hospitals (UH) Seidman Cancer Center at Southwest General offers comprehensive cancer care, close to home.

The Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program. This accreditation recognizes cancer programs that have met the CoC-established performance measures for the provision of high-quality cancer care. As a CoC-accredited program, the UH Seidman Cancer Center at Southwest General offers patients the full scope of services required to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support cancer patients and their families. These services inlcude:

• Advanced technology for highly precise Image-Guided, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy

• Gynecologic oncology services

Additionally, to complement services available at the UH Seidman Cancer Center, Southwest General offers:

• Breast Center services--including digital mammography, breast ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy

• Exercise programs and massage therapy through LifeWorks, Southwest General's health and fitness center
• Home infusion therapy
• Hospice services
• Lymphedema treatment program
• Physical therapy
• Speech therapy
• Spiritual care services and Stephen Ministers
• Surgical services, including minimally invasive techniques to help diagnose and treat a wide range of cancers

 
Patients requiring additional services may be referred to cancer specialists at University Hospitals Case Medical Center (University Circle location).

The UH Seidman Cancer Center at Southwest General addresses the individual needs of each patient. Staff members focus not only on the physical needs of cancer patients but on their psychological and spiritual needs as well. Patient rooms and treatment areas are bright and spacious, and the Center offers a calming environment, highlighted by extensive use of natural materials. Additionally, the Center features a convenient first-floor location near free, surface-level parking.

As part of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, the UH Seidman Cancer Center follows detailed treatment protocols and procedures established by the National Cancer Institute and has earned the Institute’s highest designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center.
