Southwest General Brings First Full Service Emergency Room to Brunswick
Middleburg Heights, OH (Aug. 25, 2009): Southwest General announces plans to develop a full service Emergency Room (ER) at its Brunswick Medical Center, located on Route 303 next to Brunswick City Hall. It is expected that the 24/7 ER will be available this fall, and is Southwest’s solution to the growing need for ER care from communities in northern Medina County.
In order to provide high-quality care close to home for northern Medina county residents, the ER will be staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and specially-trained emergency nurses. Emergency physicians will continue to provide medical control for local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) squads.
“Southwest General’s ER in Brunswick will reduce the length of time that ambulances are out of service and the wear and tear on our vehicles, reducing our operating expenses related to emergency services,” stated Bob Zienkowski, city manager of Brunswick. Currently, Brunswick Firefighter and Paramedics regularly transport patients to Southwest General’s main campus ER located in Middleburg Heights. “We support their new ER in Brunswick.”
According to Thomas A. Selden, FACHE, Southwest General president and CEO, “The development of this ER aligns with our strategic plan that calls for providing services in close proximity to our patients. We are committed to providing high-quality ER service for residents in northern Medina County.”
Southwest General will initially open the ER in the current Urgicare space at its Brunswick Medical Center. Services will be available on a year-round basis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Additionally, plans are currently being finalized to expand the existing center by developing a new 8,000-square-foot ER and ambulance bay at the Southwest General Brunswick Medical Center.
“We are hopeful that some stimulus dollars will help support this development as Southwest General continues to bring high-paying medical and construction jobs to the area,” added Mr. Selden. “We support City Council, the mayor and Mr. Zienkowski’s efforts to bring those stimulus funds to Brunswick”.
