Volunteering Volunteer Assignment Options
More than 950 people, aged 14 and older, volunteer at Southwest General Health Center. Most people volunteer once a week, two to four hours at a time. Although new volunteers are always welcome, the needs of the health center, volunteer availability and the interviewer’s recommendations will be taken into consideration in determining volunteer assignments.
Opportunities include, but are not limited to:
Information Desks
Provide patient information and direct visitors to patient rooms, physician offices and health center departments.
Clerical
Support various health center departments through general office duties.
Patient Transport
Assist patients, families and associates by transporting patients by wheelchair and helping with errands.
Support Services
Deliver mail, newspapers, menus and schedules throughout the health center.
Physical Medicine
Observe and assist health care professionals in patient care areas of Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy.
Retail Services
Participate in a variety of volunteer non-profit health center businesses that benefit key patient and community projects.
Community Services
Assist in providing in-home services, transportation or friendly visitation.
Special Assignments
Active volunteers may opt to staff booths at health fairs and promotional events or participate in mailings and other annual events.
