Planned Gifts
We realize that not everyone can make significant contributions during their lifetime. For those individuals, there are various planned or deferred gift options that will enable you to make meaningful gift commitments that Southwest General will receive at a later date. Here are some examples of deferred gifts.
Bequest – A bequest through your will or living trust requires no financial commitment during your lifetime. You may name Southwest General as a beneficiary of your will or add Southwest General through a simple will codicil.
Life Insurance – You can name Southwest General as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy that no longer serves its original purpose. Or you can transfer the ownership of a life insurance policy that no longer serves its original purpose. Immediate tax benefits may apply for the later option.
Retirement Assets – Since retirement assets are subject to both income and estate taxes if left to heirs, they may be a smart choice to bequest to charity and leave other assets to heirs.
Retained Life Estate – You can transfer the title of your home to Southwest General while retaining the right to live in the property. Current and future tax incentives may apply.
Charitable Lead Trust – Transfer assets to a trust that will pay income to Southwest General for a term of years. At the end of the term, the principal can revert back to you or your beneficiaries. Click here for more information on our Charitable Gift Annuity Program.

Deferred Charitable Gift Annuity – Postpone income payments and receive higher payout rates than an immediate charitable gift annuity.
Charitable Remainder Trust – This flexible charitable gift instrument can be established with a fixed income payout (CRAT) or flexible payout (CRUT). Income can be specified for life or a term of years, charitable income tax deduction applies, and you may receive significant capital gains and estate tax savings.
