Dr. Vasu and Lisa Pandrangi Announce $3 Million Gift

Middleburg Heights, OH (Tuesday, May 28, 2013) – On Saturday, May 25, 2013, Dr. Vasu and Lisa Pandrangi announced a $3 million gift—the largest in Southwest General’s history—to the Touch the Future capital campaign in support of the hospital’s Building for Your Future expansion project.

The largest privately funded project currently underway in Cuyahoga County, Southwest General’s expansion project on the Main Campus in Middleburg Heights will include a new patient bed tower with 96 private patient rooms, which will be named Pandrangi Tower, in recognition of the Pandrangi family’s generous gift.

“We are truly grateful to Dr. Vasu and Lisa Pandrangi for this extraordinary gift,” said Thomas A. Selden, president and CEO, Southwest General. “The Pandrangis’ gift of $3 million to the Touch the Future capital campaign sets a new bar for future giving and leaves a lasting philanthropic legacy at this hospital. Additionally, by supporting the expansion currently underway on our Main Campus, their gift will help to ensure that the communities we serve continue to receive health care in the most optimal setting possible.”

Dr. Vasu Pandrangi, a board-certified plastic surgeon, and chairman of the Southwest Community Health System board of trustees since 2007, has been a prominent member of Southwest General’s Medical Staff. During his years at Southwest General, Dr. Pandrangi also has served as president of the Medical Staff and as a trustee on the Southwest General Health Center board of trustees and the Southwest Community Health System board of trustees. Lisa is a registered nurse and has been involved in the Westlake School District as well as in their church.

They are active community members in the city of Westlake, where they reside. In addition to his gift to the hospital, Dr. Pandrangi has donated funds to acquire air conditioning units, stretchers and wheelchairs for King George Hospital’s Burn Unit in India. Additionally, he has presented at many local, national and international surgery conventions.

“For more than 32 years, Southwest General has been home to Lisa and me. Our choice to make this donation was truly embedded in the fact that we want to see Southwest General’s future flourish,” explains Dr. Pandrangi. “Southwest General has been a staple in the communities Southwest of Cleveland since 1920. We hope that by giving back to this community hospital, others will do so as well.”

The extension of Southwest General’s Main Campus facility will expand the outstanding quality of care that generations of local residents have relied upon Southwest General to provide. The grand opening of the new ER and Critical Care Unit is anticipated in early 2014, while completion of the patient bed tower is slated for year-end 2014.

“The Pandrangis’ commitment to the future of Southwest General, and to the health and well-being of the communities it serves, is exceptional,” said Michael Cogan, chairman, Southwest Community Health Foundation board of trustees. “On Saturday evening, we not only recognized the Pandrangis’ significant gift to the hospital’s future but also thanked them for their many years of service to Southwest General. Through their gift, we will be able to continue improving the lives of so many by providing the highest quality care in a state-of-the-art facility.”
