EMS Services

Providing medical direction to area fire departments and surrounding communities for the past 40 years

Southwest General’s EMS Services professionals are privileged to work with local fire departments to help meet the evolving and ever-changing medical needs of our communities. It is a rewarding experience to provide ongoing emergency medical training to our firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

Community Support for Our Services

The support our EMS Department receives from city administrators, fire departments and Southwest General Administration, allows for quality continuing education for the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Providing ongoing education and training, both in the field and at the Hospital offers valuable learning experiences for EMTs, preparing them for the emergencies they may encounter.

Quality Care from Dedicated Professionals

The quality care patients receive can be attributed to many dedicated individuals. Medical Director Susan Tout, MD, leads the team with experience and a commitment to quality patient care.  Additionally, our area fire chiefs united to organize the Southwest Area Fire and Emergency Services Committee (S.A.F.E.S) 30 years ago, which has become one of our greatest assets.

Ongoing Direction and Education

Monthly meetings with S.A.F.E.S. Committee and Hospital Administration chart the overall direction for EMS operations and patient care.  An EMT representative from each fire department also meets on a monthly basis. Evaluation of patient care, protocols, new equipment and procedures allows for cohesive and up to date patient care.

EMT First Responders Providing Emergency Medical Care

The backbone of our system lies with the many EMTs who provide excellent, dedicated patient care each day to those who call upon them for help. These pre-hospital care providers have chosen a life’s career to help those in need. It is Southwest General’s privilege to support and provide education for the fire departments and EMTs as they meet the needs of our communities.
