Southwest General has been a vital part of the communities Southwest of Greater Cleveland for more than 90 years. In addition to being the primary medical resource for more than 300,000 residents, it has been a major part of the growth and infrastructure of neighboring communities. Our goal always has been to provide compassionate, quality care with the patient at the center of everything we do.
Building for Your Future
That’s why we’ve invested more than $124 million to expand our ability to care for the critical needs of those who enter our doors on a daily basis. Construction is well underway on our Building for Your Future expansion project, which, once completed, will include:
A new 40,000-square-foot Emergency Room (ER) -- opened in Jan. 2014
The 24-bed Parker Hannifin Corporation Critical Care Unit -- opened in April 2014
Pandrangi Tower, a new patient bed tower with 96 private patient rooms -- scheduled to open in Oct. 2014
A 250-car underground parking structure
Opened in Jan. 2014, the new ER is sized to accommodate increased community demand for emergency care. It is fully equipped to provide high quality, efficient emergency medical care for day to day needs as well as for large emergent events.
The new Critical Care Unit opened in April 2014. It is located directly above the new ER and features specially trained staff, state-of-the-art technology and warm, spacious rooms to provide patients and families with outstanding quality care.
Patients’ desire for more private space will be met with the addition of 96 private patient rooms in the new Pandrangi Tower. With the support of a $3 million gift from Dr. Vasu and Lisa Pandrangi to the Touch the Future capital campaign, the new Pandrangi Tower is slated for completion in Oct. 2014. Beautiful vistas overlooking the Metroparks, open air balconies and winter gardens will provide unique areas for patients and visitors.
The entire scope of Southwest General's expansion project is scheduled for completion in 2015.
Connecting to Nature
The new building will be exceptional when it comes to technology and artistic features. Situated next to the Metroparks, it will provide patients with beautiful, calming exterior views and will pull in the natural surroundings from the outside to ultimately create a unique combination of light, texture, shadowing and colors. Additionally, a variety of original artwork from local artists will adorn the walls.
There’s no doubt about it, when complete, the building will be spectacular!
Neighborhood Concept Benefits Patients, Staff
Each unit in the new building will be composed of “neighborhoods” of eight beds each. Staffing will be based on this eight-bed concept. Currently, care providers may travel 180 feet or more from the nurses’ station to a patient’s room. In the new building, they will travel no further than 60 feet from a support space to reach a patient room. This space has been designed specifically to make it easier for staff to monitor and care for patients and for patients to access staff.
Ushering in a New Era Together!
The Building for Your Future expansion project has dramatically changed the face of Southwest General’s Main Campus and has positioned Southwest General to meet the growing needs of the surrounding communities we serve. We look forward to watching the remaining parts of this project unfold together!
