Hospice Services


Southwest General’s Hospice Services are a specialized, holistic way of caring with dignity, comfort and compassion for those who are nearing life's final stages. Our team of professionals provides state-of-the-art care for patients in their actual dwellings, including nursing homes and assisted living apartments. The hospice program at Southwest General also includes 24-hour medical supervision for symptom relief at our 10-bed residential facility in Strongsville.

Comprehensive Hospice Services

Our hospice services are focused on addressing all the needs of our patients. These include, but are not limited to:

  • 24-hour on-call staff (typical response time is under 15 minutes)
  • Medical Director who makes home visits
  • Comfort medications available upon admission
  • Continuous care in the home for symptom management
  • Nursing staff certified in hospice and palliative care
  • Nurse visits in the home as needed
  • Nursing aides available to help with personal care needs
  • Board-certified chaplain
  • Social worker certified in hospice and palliative care
  • Bedside vigil volunteers
  • Certified bereavement counselor
  • Bereavement support available for up to two years, if needed
  • Community-based staff

At any time, you can say no to hospice care ... for example, if your health stabilizes, and you feel you are no longer in need of services.
