Recently, a growing amount of attention has been focused on northeast Ohio hospitals and health systems that have changed how they bill for regular doctor visits by adding what is know as a “facility fee.”

When a hospital or health system charges a facility fee for a doctor’s office visit, you will receive two bills – one for the physician’s service and a second for the facility charge.

For most physician practices located in Southwest General facilities, when you see a doctor in his or her office, you will NOT be billed the extra facility fee charge. Similarly, most doctors in Southwest General’s Brunswick Medical Center and Strongsville Medical Centers do not charge a facility fee.

Patients may be billed an additional facility fee for outpatient services such as laboratory, radiology and cardiovascular medicine or when they visit a hospital-based outpatient clinic such as University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Southwest General.
