Southwest Community Health System Appoints William A. Young, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer

Middleburg Heights, OH (Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015)– William (Bill) A. Young, Jr., has been appointed the new president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Southwest Community Health System, in Middleburg Heights, OH. The Health System is the parent organization for Southwest General Health Center and Southwest Community Health Foundation. Mr. Young was unanimously approved by all three boards of trustees that govern Southwest General’s operations.

Young succeeds Thomas A. Selden, FACHE, who is retiring after more than eight years of leadership at Southwest General as president and CEO. 

“Bill’s understanding of the challenges facing the Northeast Ohio health care marketplaceas well as his extensive experience made him the right choice to build upon Southwest General’s strengths and help lead us into the future,” said Vasu Pandrangi, MD, chairman, Southwest Community Health System board of trustees. “I would like to thank Alan Budney, who chaired the search committee, as well as the other members of the committee for their work. On behalf of the boards of trustees, we welcome Bill to the organization.”

Young brings more than 20 years of health system and community hospital leadership experience to Southwest General. Most recently, he served as president and CEO of St. John Medical Center, in Westlake, OH. Prior to this, he served as chief operating officer of South Pointe Hospital, in Warrensville Heights, OH, and Marymount Hospital, in Garfield Heights, OH. Also, Young has held various positions at Humility of Mary Health Partners, where he last served as president of St. Joseph Health Center, and at Meridia Health System.

Young has proven experience in building patient satisfaction and community presence and a strong history of improving financial performance through growth and cost management.

Young holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Toledo and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Ohio Northern University. He resides with his wife and three children in Hudson, OH.  

Young will begin his tenure as president and CEO of Southwest General on Jan. 1, 2016.
