Southwest General’s Breast Center Receives National Award

Middleburg Heights, OH (Dec. 20, 2011) – The Breast Center at Southwest General has been named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.

Centers of Excellence must meet rigorous guidelines and must complete several accreditation programs, including the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program. Additionally, Southwest General’s Breast Center is fully accredited in stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, which are voluntary accreditations.  The Center of Excellence designation recognizes the Breast Center for obtaining all four accreditations, said Barb Demyan, RT, director of Radiology at Southwest General.

The designation also means that the Breast Center physicians, technicians and other personnel have received enhanced training in the latest procedures and techniques.

Demyan said the Breast Center, which opened in 2000, is inspected once a year by the American College of Radiology.
