Southwest General Receives Notable Designations from Cigna Centers of Excellence

Middleburg Hts., OH (Monday, Feb. 20, 2017) – Southwest General recently received designation from Cigna Centers of Excellence (COE) in the following fields:

  • Joint Replacement—Total hip replacement and total knee replacement
  • Cardiac Cath and Angioplasty—Cardiac catheterization and angioplasty, with and without stent

COE designations are based on Cigna’s evaluation of a hospital’s quality and affordability for four individual inpatient conditions and procedures and seven categories of conditions and procedures.

“I am pleased that Southwest General continues to be recognized for providing patients and community members with high-quality, cost efficient care—as validated by the numerous national awards we have received,” said William A. Young, Jr., president and chief executive officer. “We are committed to ensuring that we deliver to our patients the best possible care in a convenient, accessible location.”

The Cigna Centers of Excellence program is designed to meet growing consumer demand for valuable information about quality and cost that can help individuals make informed choices about where to seek care.  Depending on the specific condition or procedure being assessed, quality scores are based on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare measures, Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ) patient safety and inpatient quality indicators, Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score and the Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
