Southwest General to Provide Medical Control for Olmsted Township Fire Department

Collaboration Offers Seamless Emergency Medical Care for Residents

Middleburg Hts., OH (Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017)– Olmsted Township has selected Southwest General Health Center to provide medical control for its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel. This collaboration will provide Olmsted Township Fire Department EMS with quality continuing education and ongoing training, both in the field and at the hospital.

Under the new agreement, Olmsted Township EMS staff will meet monthly with the Southwest Area Fire and Emergency Services (S.A.F.E.S.) committee and Southwest General representatives to chart the overall direction for EMS operations and patient care for Township residents.

“Southwest General and Olmsted Township have a long history of collaborating to promote the health and wellness of community residents. We look forward to continuing this relationship by providing support and education for members of the Olmsted Township Fire Department,” said William A. Young, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Southwest General. “By working together, we can meet the community’s needs for high-quality emergency medical care and provide a seamless experience for patients from community to hospital.”

Additionally, Olmsted Township Fire Department EMS will participate in monthly meetings coordinated by Southwest General for all fire departments under its medical control. The meetings offer an opportunity for evaluation of patient care, protocols, new equipment and procedures to foster cohesive and up-to-date patient care.

According to Pat Kelly, Fire Chief of the Olmsted Township Fire Department, “We are fortunate to have the backing of a hospital, such as Southwest General, which maintains strong relationships with area Fire Departments and is proactive in providing education and training for our firefighter/paramedics.”
