The New ER

Now Even Better At Getting You Better

The NEW Emergency Room at Southwest General is now OPEN!
Southwest General's beautiful, new 40,000-square-foot Emergency Room (ER) opened January 18, 2014. This state-of-the-art facility is sized to accommodate the increased community demand for emergency care. It is fully equipped to provide high quality, efficient emergency medical care for day-to-day needs as well as for large emergent events.

ER Waiting Room
Staffed by board-certified ER physicians and specially trained staff, the new facility offers:

  • Larger, private treatment rooms equipped with the latest technology
  • Our award-winning Primary Stroke Center
  • Specialized treatment areas for various patient populations, including behavioral health, bariatric and pediatric patients, among others.

New ER Procedure Rooms

Additional features of the new ER:

  • More than double the space of the former ER--40,000 square feet versus 18,000 square feet--providing ample room for the latest technologies and enhanced patient privacy.
  • The ability to handle 60,000 patients per year, versus 35,000 patients per year in the former ER.
  • Private patient rooms instead of the curtained separators, providing more space for family members. Some patient rooms also have private bathrooms.
  • Designed around the hospital’s split-flow efficiency initiative, which moves patients through three different routes of treatment according to the severity of their conditions.
  • An eight-bed Clinical Decision Unit, which will enable us to care for patients who require va longer length of treatment in the ER, yet don’t require admission to the hospital.
