Why can’t I breathe? Why am I so tired all the time?

Southwest General’s new Pulmonary Hypertension Center may have the answers you’ve been looking for!

Middleburg Heights, OH (June 6, 2011) – Have you found yourself recently gasping for air or complaining of swelling in the legs or an extreme amount of fatigue? Have you already seen your physician, yet these symptoms persist? You could be suffering from Pulmonary Hypertension (PH).

PH is defined as abnormally high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs and this rare condition makes the right side of the heart work harder than normal to circulate blood to the lungs. As a result, over time, the right side of the heart may become enlarged and then weaken and fail. There is no known cure for this disease, yet timely treatment can significantly improve quality of life.

Through Southwest General’s new PH Center, patients will:
• Meet with a board-certified cardiologist with expertise in PH
• Have a six-minute walk test
• Have diagnostic testing, including an echocardiogram, EKG, lab tests, chest X-ray, pulmonary function test, among others
• Schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss test findings and additional testing, if necessary

A physician referral is not necessary. Since the treatment goal of PH is to control symptoms, the earlier you know a diagnosis, the better you will be able to improve those symptoms, quality of life and longevity!

Southwest General’s Pulmonary Hypertension Center is located in the Heart & Vascular Institute Specialty Center in Building A, Suite 410, at Southwest General’s Main Campus in Middleburg Heights. To make an appointment, call 1-877-SWG-BEAT (794-2328).
