Maternal/Fetal Medicine

Pregnant Woman

Specialized care for the high-risk pregnancy

Moms and babies trust Southwest General as a resource close to home for high-quality prenatal, labor and delivery care.  We also have maternal/fetal medicine specialists on our Medical Staff who can provide specialized care right at Southwest General's Main Campus for women with high-risk pregnancies.

Maternal/fetal medicine is a branch of obstetrics that focuses on medical and surgical management of high-risk pregnancies.  Maternal/fetal medicine specialists--also commonly known as perinatologists--are highly skilled physicians who have special training that enables them to treat pregnant women with a variety of specific medical conditions, such as

  • heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, etc.
  • women at risk for pregnancy-related complications such as preterm labor, pre-eclampsia or multiple births
  • a fetus at risk for infections, genetic diseases, growth restriction and more.
