Certified nurse midwives at Southwest General are registered nurses who have completed training in midwifery services. They are licensed by the state of Ohio Board of Nursing and certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Midwives work as part of a team to provide personalized education, support and care, including:
• Routine gynecological exams
• Help with pre-pregnancy planning
• Pregnancy care
• Assistance with labor and delivery
• Breastfeeding support
• Education on infant care and self-care, such as nutrition and exercise.
At Southwest General, midwives work closely with board-certified obstetrician/gynecologists who are available to help if complications occur during routine care or during pregnancy, labor and delivery. Many women may choose to see a midwife if they are seeking a more holistic approach to their delivery—focusing on fewer technological and invasive interventions.
Midwife services are offered at Southwest General’s North Royalton location (7171 Royalton Rd., North Royalton). Deliveries are done at the hospital’s Main Campus in Middleburg Heights.
