Midwifery Services
A holistic approach to care
Certified nurse midwives are registered nurses who have completed training
in midwifery services. They are licensed by the state of Ohio Board of
Nursing and certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Midwives often work as part of a team to provide care such as:
- Routine gynecological exams
- Help with pre-pregnancy planning
- Pregnancy care
- Assistance with labor and delivery
- Education on infant care and self-care, such as nutrition and exercise
Many women may choose to see a midwife if they are seeking a more holistic
approach to their delivery—focusing on fewer technological and invasive
interventions. At Southwest General, midwives work closely with board-certified
obstetrician/gynecologists who are available to help if complications
occur during routine care or during pregnancy, labor and delivery.
