Transitions to New Police Department

WHEN/WHERE:

Thursday, March 28, 2019
10:30 a.m. | Doors Open

Southwest General’s Main Campus
(Williams Conference Center, Rooms A-D, Basement, L. Jon Schurmeier Pavilion)
18697 Bagley Rd.
Middleburg Hts., OH 44130

WHAT: On Thursday, March 28, 2019, Southwest General’s Protection Services Department will officially be sworn in as the new “Southwest General Police Department” at a special swearing-in ceremony.

“The hospital’s Protection Services officers, all of whom are commissioned police officers through the state of Ohio, will be sworn in and receive a new hospital, police-designated badge,” explains Tristan Harker, chief, Protection Services, Southwest General.

WHY: With increased cases of workplace violence, it has become an industry standard for hospitals to have their own private Police Department.

“Transitioning to a Police Department adds a level of security to the hospital that helps us to create a safer environment overall for our patients, visitors, and staff,” said Chief Harker. “Additionally, it grants us access to law enforcement information and capabilities we currently do not have, such as the ability to arrest and file charges as well as run a license plate or driver’s license or check for active warrants or criminal history.”

According to Harker, the Middleburg Heights Police Department will continue to have overriding authority on all cases.
