Southwest Community Health Foundation

The Southwest Community Health Foundation was started in 1986 as a not-for-profit organization that centralizes all fundraising efforts of Southwest General Health Center. From the beginning of Southwest General in 1920, the spirit of philanthropy has always been part of the backbone that keeps the hospital equipped to serve the needs of our patients and community members.

In the most recent years, the Southwest Community Health Foundation has been able to secure necessary funding for many important projects through the support of our donors, corporate partners, and grant funding. Some of this funding includes:

Tiara 2022 - Held on April 9, 2022 at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Tiara Gala raised more than $1 million in support of the Cosgrove Maternity Center at Southwest General. Our deepest gratitude goes to our generous sponsors, donors, and event co-chairs, Bill Cosgrove and Mike Catanzarite, for this incredible and impactful achievement.

Cosgrove FamilyThe Cosgrove Family Foundation - A $1.25 million gift from The Cosgrove Family Foundation, led by Paula and Bill Cosgrove, will help to support a higher-level maternity and newborn care at Southwest General. When completed, the newly named “Cosgrove Maternity Center at Southwest General,” will be the only Level II Neonatal Special Care Nursery and maternity care facility in southwestern Cuyahoga County and northern Medina County.

The new Cosgrove Maternity Center at Southwest General will include:

  • A higher level of maternity care—elevating from Level I (35+ weeks of pregnancy, current) to Level II (32+ weeks of pregnancy, coming 2022)
  • A Level II Neonatal Special Care Nursery (coming 2022)
  • Ten labor and delivery suites
  • Nineteen postpartum suites (coming 2022)
  • Upgraded Labor and Delivery Suites and state-of-the-art Operating Rooms for Cesarean section (C-section) deliveries
  • A Well-Baby Nursery
  • Family-friendly visitor waiting areas and support spaces

Carol Jankura

The Foundation is so thankful to have Carol Jankura as a friend and supporter. Just recently she helped bring a special training to Southwest General after seeing the benefits herself while being treated at our Strongsville location. Visceral Manipulation 1 taught by the Barral Institute was brought to Southwest General where 9 of our therapists were able to attend on June 2-5, 2022. Thank you Carol!

Community Donations during the COVID-19 Pandemic – From the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has changed our lives in ways we never thought possible. But we truly could not have gotten through it together without the care and support from our community members and businesses. Since March 2020, we have received hundreds of meals, snacks, drinks, cards of support, and much more. We cannot thank you all enough! Your generous acts and donations brought continued smiles to our staff, even in the darkest of times. To see a full list of those who donated, click here.
