About Us

Serving the Community

Providing community health and support for residents of the Greater Cleveland area.

Southwest General is a 350-bed, non-profit hospital serving southwestern Cuyahoga, northern Medina and eastern Lorain counties. Founded in 1920 by residents of the surrounding communities, Southwest General has a rich history of community partnership and a deep commitment to the health and wellbeing of the residents it serves.

Southwest General is home to nationally recognized physicians, state-of-the-art technology and a full range of medical, surgical and emergency services, including a Level III trauma center. Additionally, patients and families benefit from an extensive program of social services and support groups that provide mental, emotional and spiritual support.

Partnering With University Hospitals

A unique partnering agreement with University Hospitals allows Southwest General to bring to its campus selected services of the nationally renowned Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, MacDonald Women’s Hospital and Seidman Cancer Center. The partnership helps Southwest General continue to provide innovative patient care, including enhanced clinical services and program development.

Building for Your Future

Southwest General’s Building for Your Future expansion project is currently underway. Scheduled for completion in 2015, it includes:

  • A new 30,000-square-foot Emergency Room
  • A 24-bed Critical Care Unit
  • A 250-car underground parking structure
  • A new patient bed tower with private rooms
  • Renovation of current patient rooms to private rooms

Nationally Recognized

Consistently recognized for outstanding quality care, Southwest General was most recently named by HealthGrades as an Emergency Medicine Excellence Award Hospital, placing it among the top 5 percent in the nation. Also, as one of the largest employers in Cuyahoga County, Southwest General is pleased to have been recognized by the The Plain Dealer in its Top Workplaces Program.
