Prestigious Awards Received by Southwest General Health Center
At Southwest General Health Center, our commitment to our community and
to an outstanding level of service has been a defining feature of our
health system since 1920—the year we first opened our doors and
began serving patients in Middleburg Heights and surrounding communities.
We believe that our patients should always come first.
Here, you will find a list of the awards and recognition we have received.
Each of these honors validates the quality of our care and the high esteem
patients and health care professionals have for Southwest General.
Our achievements include:
NorthCoast 99 – Southwest General has been a NorthCoast 99 award recipient 14 times.
Provided by the Employer’s Resource Council, this award designates
us as one of the 99 best places to work in the Northeast Ohio region.
A Top Workplace – We were named to the Top Workplaces list by The Plain Dealer for
eight consecutive years as one of the best workplaces in Northeast Ohio.
Most Connected Hospital – We were named one of the most connected hospitals for 2015-2016 by
U.S. News and World Report. This means that our excellence in focus on safety, engagement and clinical
connectedness sets the bar high for patient care.
Excellence in Patient Safety – The Leapfrog Group (an independent industry watchdog organization)
gave us an “A” grade—the highest possible--for patient
safety in their fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score Report.
American College of Cardiology’s Platinum Performance Achievement Award – Only 319 hospitals in the country received this award, a distinction
granted for facilities that maintain high standards in the area of heart
attack care, following the strict guidelines and recommendations of the
American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association.
The Joint Commission Heart Failure and Primary Stroke Center Certification - Our rigorous standard of care for heart attack and stroke care have earned
us official recognition by the Joint Commission. This means we meet or
exceed all the clinical practice guidelines published by the American
Cigna Centers of Excellence – Named a Cigna Center of Excellence for Joint Replacement (total
hip replacement and total knee replacement) and Cardiac Cath and Angioplasty
(cardiac catheterization and angioplasty, with and without stent) based
on Cigna’s evaluation of hospital quality and affordability for
four individual inpatient conditions and procedures and seven categories
of conditions and procedures.
Society of Thoracic Surgeons Three-Star Rating for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft – We earned a distinguished three-star rating from The Society of
Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary
artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures. The three-star rating, which
denotes the highest category of quality, places Southwest General among
the elite for heart bypass surgery in the U.S. and Canada.
American Heart Association / American Stroke Association’s Get with
the Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Target:
Strokes Honor Roll Elite Recognition – This series of awards recognizes our high standard in stroke care
for patients at Southwest General.
American Heart Association’s Get with The Guidelines Gold Quality
Achievement Award Heart Failure Recognition – We received the Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Gold
Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement
measures as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College
of Cardiology Foundation’s secondary prevention guidelines for patients
with heart failure.
Mission Lifeline: Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award – We earned the Mission: Lifeline® Gold Receiving Quality Achievement
Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined
by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer
severe heart attacks.
Mission Lifeline: NSTEMI – We earned the Mission: Lifeline® NSTEMI Award for achieving
adherence to Dual Antiplatelet prescription at discharge to improve the
quality of care for NSTEMI patients.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) National List of 97 Best
Hospitals for Joint Replacements – We were named to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS) list of the 97 best health care facilities for joint replacements
due to low complication rates.
Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care, Knee and Hip Replacements, Spine
Surgery, Maternity Care® – These distinctions for our Orthopedic Joint Center reflect our
dedication to quality care and positive outcomes in knee / hip replacement
Accreditation with Commendation-Silver Rating by the Commission on Cancer –The University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Southwest General has
received the 2014 Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation-Silver Rating
by the Commission on Cancer (COC) of the American College of Surgeons.
