Prestigious Awards Received by Southwest General Health Center
At Southwest General, our commitment to the community members we serve,
and to an outstanding level of service, has been a defining feature of
our health system since its founding in 1920. Here, you will find a list
of the awards and recognition we have received. Each of these honors validates
the high quality of care and service our health care professionals deliver.
Our achievements include:
IBM Watson Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals - Southwest General was named one of the nation's 50 Top Cardiovascular
Hospitals by IBM Watson Health.The annual study, conducted by Truven Health
Analytics, now part of IBM Watson Health, identifies the top U.S. hospitals
for inpatient cardiovascular services.
Lantern Award Recipient - Southwest General's Main Campus Emergency Departmentand the Brunswick
Emergency Department have been awarded the prestigious Lantern Award from
the Emergency Nurses Association for the three-year period of 2020-2023.
The Lantern Award is given to EDs that exemplify exceptional practice
and innovative performance in the core areas of leadership, practice,
education, advocacy and research.
North Coast 99 - Southwest General has been named, for the fourteenth consecutive year,
a NorthCoast 99 award recipient. Designated by the Employer’s Resource
Council, this award names us as one of the 99 best places to work in Northeast Ohio.
A Top Workplace –Southwest General was named to the "Top Workplaces" list by
The Plain Dealer for the eighth consecutive year as one of the best workplaces in Northeast Ohio.
Excellence in Patient Safety – The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving
quality, safety and transparency in the U.S. health care system, for patient
safety, ranked Southwest General with an 'A' Grade in their spring
2017 Hospital Safety Score Report.
NCDR Platinum Performance Achievement Award – A distinction granted for facilities that maintain high standards
in the area of heart attack care, following the strict guidelines and
recommendations of the American College of Cardiology and American Heart
The Joint Commission Heart Failure and Primary Stroke Center Certification – The hospital's rigorous standard of care for heart attack and
stroke care have earned us official recognition by The Joint Commission.
This means we meet or exceed all the clinical practice guidelines published
by the American Heart Association.
Cigna Centers of Excellence – Named a Cigna Center of Excellence for Joint Replacement and Cardiac
Cath and Angioplasty (cardiac catheterization and angioplasty, with and
without stent) based on Cigna’s evaluation of hospital quality and
affordability for four individual inpatient conditions and procedures
and seven categories of conditions and procedures.
Society of Thoracic Surgeons Three-Star Rating for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft – Southwest General earned a distinguished three-star rating from
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for patient care and outcomes in
isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures. The three-star
rating, which denotes the highest category of quality, places Southwest
General among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the U.S. and Canada.
American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With
The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Target:
Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Recognition – This series of awards recognizes our high standard in stroke care
for patients at Southwest General.
American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®Gold Quality Achievement Award Heart Failure Recognition –We received the Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Gold
Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement
measures as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College
of Cardiology Foundation’s secondary prevention guidelines for patients
with heart failure.
Gold Plus Receiving Quality Achievement Award – We earned the Mission: Lifeline® Gold Plus Receiving Quality
Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures
outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients
who suffer severe heart attacks.
NSTEMI – We earned the Mission: Lifeline® NSTEMI Award for achieving
adherence to dual antiplatelet prescription at discharge to improve the
quality of care for NSTEMI patients.
Blue Distinction® Center for Cardiac Care, Knee and Hip Replacement,
Spine Surgery and Maternity Care
Employer of Choice Award - Southwest General received the Employer of Choice® award following
a rigorous evaluation process. To date, it is the only hospital in the
state of Ohio to have received this recognition. The Employer of Choice®
award is presented to organizations that are dedicated to a higher level
of employee relations that goes above and beyond the normative practices
of Human Resources. It was created as a way for employers to differentiate
themselves from others by attracting, optimizing, and holding on to, their
ANCC Pathway to Excellence Designation - The Pathway designation is a global credential that highlights Southwest
General’s commitment to creating a healthy work environment where
nurses feel empowered and valued. At Southwest General, nurses are an
integral part of the health care team, with a voice in policy and practice.
Pathway nurses are engaged, resulting in higher job satisfaction, reduced
turnover, improved safety and better patient outcomes.
