Comprehensive Care for Expectant Mothers

Having a baby is an exciting time, and Southwest General is here to help you every step of the way! We’re committed to providing outstanding, family-centered care that supports an exceptional birth experience for the whole family.

Compassionate, High-Quality Care for Your Birth Experience

Parents who choose to deliver their baby at Southwest General can have peace of mind knowing that mom and baby will receive high-quality care at our new Cosgrove Maternity Center, which is a Level II Neonatal and Maternity Care center.

As a Level II center, we provide:

  • Care for appropriate moderate to high-risk maternity patients (32+ weeks of pregnancy)
  • Neonatal care for babies born as early as 32 weeks gestation who require close monitoring or special care after birth. These babies will be cared for in our Level II Special Care Nursery
  • 24/7 access to a team of specialists experienced in maternity and newborn care

Our Level II Center is supported by an experienced team of skilled nurses, obstetricians, neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists and other specialists, equipped with the advanced technology to care for you and your newborn.

A Safe and Caring Environment

Our Cosgrove Maternity Center is the result of a recently completed multimillion dollar expansion and renovation project. In addition to offering Level II care, the Center is designed to support an exceptional birth experience and features:

  • 10 labor and delivery suites, including two hydrotherapy suites for labor
  • 19 postpartum suites
  • State-of-the-art operating rooms for Cesarean section (C-section) deliveries
  • A Well-Baby Nursery (in addition to the Level II Special Care Nursery)
  • Family-friendly visitor waiting areas and support spaces

Additionally, the Center has been designed with the comforts of home in mind—including soft, soothing colors, nature-inspired artwork and large, bright rooms with beautiful views of the Metroparks—to help parents feel relaxed and promote an inviting atmosphere for mom and baby.

Helping patients welcome new members to their family is one of the most joyous services we provide, and our compassionate staff is honored to play a role in this tremendous journey.

Your Birthing Journey

We’re dedicated to working with each expectant mom to develop a customized Birth Plan that reflects your individual wants and needs. A Birth Plan is a document that lets members of your medical care team know your wishes for things like how to manage labor pain; who to allow in the room with you during delivery; feeding preferences for your baby; and much, much more.

In addition to discussing your Birth Plan, we will review what to expect before, during and after your baby’s birth; what to bring to the hospital when labor starts; how to select a pediatrician and more. Additionally, we’ll discuss classes available to you and your family to better prepare you for your baby’s birth.

Support for New and Expectant Parents

We understand that preparing for a new addition to the family can be overwhelming. That’s why we offer a range of services designed to help parents both before and after the baby is born. These include childbirth and family life classes with convenient online options if needed to accommodate busy lifestyles and/or safety restrictions. Other Maternity services we offer include:
