Having a baby is an exciting time, and Southwest General is here to help
you every step of the way! We’re committed to providing outstanding,
family-centered care that supports an exceptional birth experience for
the whole family.
Parents who choose to deliver their baby at Southwest General can have peace of mind knowing that mom and baby will receive care from a friendly, experienced staff of medical professionals. Helping patients welcome new members to their family is one of the most joyous services we provide, and our compassionate staff is honored to play a role in this tremendous journey.
We’re dedicated to working with each expectant mom to develop a customized Birth Plan that reflects your individual wants and needs. A Birth Plan is a document that lets members of your medical care team know your wishes for things like how to manage labor pain; who to allow in the room with you during delivery; feeding preferences for your baby; and much, much more.
In addition to discussing your Birth Plan, we will review what to expect before, during and after your baby’s birth; what to bring to the hospital when labor starts; how to select a pediatrician and more. Additionally, we’ll discuss classes available to you and your family to better prepare you for your baby’s arrival.
Southwest General is in the second phase of a transformative $17.6 million project, which will double the size of the current Maternity Unit while adding a higher level of care for moms and babies—elevating from Level I care to Level II care.
When completed, the new Cosgrove Maternity Center at Southwest General will be the only Level II Neonatal Special Care Nursery and maternity care facility in southwestern Cuyahoga County and northern Medina County. The new Cosgrove Maternity Center at Southwest General, will include:
Additionally, the Center has been designed with the comforts of home in mind. Soft, soothing colors and nature-inspired artwork help parents feel relaxed and promote a cozy atmosphere for mom and baby.
We understand that preparing for a new addition to the family can be overwhelming. That’s why we offer a range of services designed to help parents both before and after the baby is born. These include childbirth and family life classes with convenient online options if needed to accommodate busy lifestyles and/or safety restrictions. Other Maternity services we offer include:
