Southwest General Physician Honored For His Work in the Fields of Chemical Dependency and Mental Health Services
Middleburg Hts., OH
(Wednesday, June 7, 2017) – Southwest General would like to honor Charles Luther, MD, a board-certified
psychiatrist on the Medical Staff at Southwest General, and medical director,
Oakview Behavioral Health Services, as the 2017 recipient of the
Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga
County Mental Health Professional of the Year.
Dr. Luther was recognized for his work in ensuring that individuals living
with mental illness and chemical dependency are treated with dignity and
respect, advocating for clients to receive the best possible treatment,
and providing expertise on Assisted Outpatient Treatment as the ADAMHS
board expands its program through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration grant.
“This award represents the compassionate, quality work of the recipient
and honors the recipient’s extraordinary contributions in helping
children and adults with mental illness and addictions on their path to
recovery,” said William M. Denihan, chief executive officer, ADAMHS
Board of Cuyahoga County. “Dr. Luther has played a significant role
in helping to remove the stigma that is all too often still associated
with mental illness and chemical dependency.”
Dr. Luther joined the Medical Staff at Southwest General in the fall of
2015. After receiving his degree from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine,
Dr. Luther practiced from more than 14 years in New York City—most
recently at Lenox Hill Hospital.
“The growing number of individuals requiring care for opioid addiction
and mental health issues is staggering,” explains William A. Young,
Jr., president and chief executive officer, Southwest General. “We
are honored to have Dr. Luther on our Medical Staff, and through his expertise
be able to provide our patients and community members with outstanding
care in treating alcohol and drug addiction and mental health issues.”
Dr. Luther was recognized at the ADAMHS Board annual meeting brunch and
awards presentation in May at Landerhaven.
