Stroke Prevention Program

Greater Cleveland Stroke Prevention

Stroke is a disease that affects the arteries leading to and within the brain. According to the American Heart and American Stroke Associations, stroke is now the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the U.S. Fortunately, stroke can be prevented! Stroke risk is reduced by living a healthy lifestyle, refraining from smoking and being physically active—among other positive health habits.

Grey Matters!

Grey Matters Stroke Prevention Program

Knowledge is power. One of the best ways to live a healthy life and have a healthy brain is to gather information about stroke prevention! Southwest General’s “Grey Matters!” is a special program that educates those aged 18 and older about stroke prevention and brain health and helps to assess their personal risk factors.

The program includes:

  • Stress and stroke risk assessments (stroke awareness and prevention)
  • Laboratory tests for cholesterol, blood sugar (glucose)
  • Screening for body mass index (BMI), blood pressure and heart rate
  • Complete 12-lead EKG and atrial fibrillation screening
  • Carotid artery ultrasound screening (If indicated, other vascular ultrasounds are available for an additional fee)

Included in the program is a one-on-one consultation with qualified members of our health care team who will discuss lab, screening, assessment, EKG and ultrasound results. There is a one-time, out-of-pocket fee of $60 for the program.

Take control of your health and arm yourself with information!
