Annual Giving

Annual Appeal Letter sent out December 2020

For everyone in our community, 2020 has been a year of unprecedented challenges and change. COVID-19 has touched every aspect of our lives, from our schools to our work to our regular family gatherings. At Southwest General, the challenges posed by the pandemic are complex and ever-changing. The safety and well-being of our patients, visitors, and staff has been, and will continue to be, our highest priority. This requires incredible commitment and courage by our clinicians and nurses who work tirelessly to protect the health of our friends and families. And most notably, our caregivers’ efforts have been met with an incredible outpouring of support from our community. Only together do we persevere.

In2020, we also marked the 100-year anniversary of Southwest General. In 1920, a devastating influenza epidemic spurred concerned members of the community to rally together and raise funds to create Southwest Hospital. A century later, we see this philanthropic spirit mirrored by the hundreds of individuals who have contributed to the hospital’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund this year. The generosity and support of our community will continue to be the backbone of Southwest General, and our purpose will remain to provide the very best care possible. Even in these most trying of times, we must honor the tradition of Southwest General by looking to the future and securing the health and well-being of generations to come.

Accordingly, Southwest General has embarked on a transformational project to enhance the resources and capabilities of Maternity Services. The dramatic expansion of our maternity floor will feature an additional 4,000 square feet of space, two state-of-the-art operating rooms, 10 labor and delivery rooms, and 19 postpartum rooms designed with the comforts of home in mind. The project will also include a Special Care Nursery, which will allow us to care for moderately premature infants and others who require specialized monitoring. As risk factors grow more significant across the country, and health care providers in our area reduce or eliminate their own maternity programs, expectant parents are increasingly looking at non-area hospitals for the highest level of care. They will now find that care right here in their own backyard, where Southwest General welcomes growing families home.

Please help us welcome and care for the newest members of our community by making a donation to the Southwest General Maternity Services Fund. With your help, we can build the foundation for another 100 years of health and wellness. You can make a gift today by visiting our donations page, by calling 440-816-6713, or by sending a check to the Southwest Community Health Foundation in the enclosed envelope.

Your contribution will make a true difference for families during the most important moments of their lives. Thank you for your consideration, and best wishes and health to you and your loved ones.
