One of the first steps in treating a sleep disorder is conducting a sleep study. Within the secure facilities of Southwest General, sleep studies are conducted by highly skilled technicians in a soothing environment designed to promote a restful night’s sleep. Digital, state-of-the-art equipment monitors sleep patterns, including brainwaves, breathing, oxygen level, heartbeat, muscle movement and any abnormal events during a patient’s sleep. This information is recorded and charted for analysis and is used to determine an appropriate treatment regimen. It also is shared with a patient’s primary care physician for follow-up.
