Southwest General is actively negotiating with Aetna® to finalize a new contract for both Commercial and Medicare Advantage plans and remains active/in-network with Aetna through September 30, 2025.
We are committed to reaching an agreement that modernizes our current contract, which is nearly 20 years old, to better meet today's healthcare environment. We are working in good faith and will keep you informed of our progress.
What This Means for Your Coverage
If a new agreement is not reached by the deadline, your coverage at Southwest General will change from in-network to out-of-network benefits starting October 1, 2025.
Out-of-network status may result in an increase in your co-pay and/or co-insurance for services at Southwest General.
You can continue to receive care from your established provider at Southwest General, regardless of network status.
Your Open Enrollment Options
If you are an Aetna member and wish to maintain in-network access to our services, please take this into account during Open Enrollment this fall. You can explore other insurance plans that include Southwest General in their network by visiting our Accepted Insurance Web Page.
Need Help or Have Questions
If you have questions specific to your plan or benefits, contact Aetna directly using the number on the back of your insurance card. For questions about how this may impact your care at Southwest General, email InsuranceQuestions@swgeneral.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How will I know if I’m affected?
A. You will receive a letter from Southwest General if your current plan will be affected as of October 1, 2025.
Q. Can I still see my provider?

Conversely, your insurance may deny care at one of our facilities or require you to be seen elsewhere.

Q. Will emergency care still be covered?
A. Yes. Emergency care is available to all patients, regardless of insurance status.
Q. What if I have a surgery or procedure scheduled after October 1, 2025?
A. Patients undergoing medical treatment should contact their insurance company to verify if their medical condition is covered under continuity of care benefits, which would allow them to continue receiving treatment from Southwest General. To learn more, call the phone number on the back of your insurance card to determine if your care will be covered.
