Middleburg Heights, OH (Friday, Oct. 28, 2022) – Starting in November 2022, Southwest General will continue the nationally recognized work of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center’s Center for Bariatric Surgery at the hospital’s Main Campus in Middleburg Heights. The announcement comes in light of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center making the difficult decision to stop providing inpatient and surgical care at its downtown Cleveland facility.
“During these complex and trying times in health care, we recognize how difficult these decisions can be to make,” said William A. Young, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Southwest General. “We are honored to provide a high-quality, safe home, for the current and future patients of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center’s bariatric surgery program.”
Founded in 1997, the Center for Bariatric Surgery at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center is the first program in Northeast Ohio to achieve national accreditation and was recognized earlier this year as a National Center of Excellence for the 25th consecutive year.
In addition to meeting all necessary criteria as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), the Center was recommended for the Best Practice in Patient Education Award and the staff was applauded as a “dynamic team with excellent program leadership.”
As part of the relocation, members of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center’s multidisciplinary team of dedicated and experienced staff will transition to providing care at Southwest General’s Main Campus in Middleburg Heights.
“We look forward to continuing the nationally recognized legacy of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center’s program, and to welcoming their staff to the family at Southwest General,” said Young.
The bariatric surgeons, including program director, Leslie Pristas, DO, FACS, nurses, operating room staff, psychologists, patient advocates, dietitians, and more, work together to provide patients with the individualized care and attention necessary to help them reach their goals and are the reason the Center continues to be highly sought-after for surgical and non-surgical weight loss.
“When making the decision where to transition our long-standing bariatric surgical program, Southwest General was a natural fit,” said Adnan Tahir, MD, president and chief executive officer, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center. “We are confident that our bariatric surgical patients will be in excellent hands at Southwest General, and that the continuity of care will be seamless and that our core values of community and patient-first mentality will remain.”
