Rehabilitation and Education Services for Diabetes Patients in Greater Cleveland
Southwest General offers comprehensive diabetes services and education
so that patients can better understand their disease and learn to manage
it. Educational sessions focus on managing diabetes through weight control,
physical activity, healthy diet and medication, if needed. Our goal is
to help instill healthy habits so that patients with diabetes do not experience
more serious complications.
Classes Managed by Diabetes Experts
A certified diabetes nurse educator and a nutritionist work with patients
to help them understand the nature of their disease and the actions they
can take to manage their diabetes.
Our series of support classes include:
Diabetes Basics – In this course, newly diagnosed diabetes patients and their families learn
the basics of managing the disease. The course consists of five, one-hour
classes and serves as a valuable introductory course or review even for
patients who do not have diabetes education Insurance benefits.
Diabetes Education Program – This is an in-depth class reviewing very specific diabetes management
practices. Classes are performed both one-on-one and in small group settings.
Stop the Clock!
Pre-Diabetes Metabolic Syndrome – If you have a high risk of developing diabetes, you may be referred
to this course, which is intended to help people avoid or postpone diabetes
by learning self-care management techniques and dietary guidelines.
